Cold-Pressed Walnut Oil Business Profit In India

Introduction profit in cold-pressed walnut oil business in India

During the olden days, a long cylindrical contraption is known as ‘ghani’ was employed to extract oil from oilseeds. The mortar and pestle device which is made of stone or wood that used a perambulating animal to extract oil in pressure from oil-bearing seeds. This was the primitive method for cold pressing oils out of a seed as it didn’t involve the generation of any heat. In present times, extraction machinery has replaced ghanis which use excessive heat with high quantities of oil; but the quality may effect.

A step by step guide to the cold-pressed walnut oil business in India

Cold-pressed retain healthy antioxidants which are otherwise damaged while they get exposed to heat. Antioxidants are used to fight against free radicals that lead to cell damage in the body. Most cold-pressed oils contain high amounts of vitamin E, which is having an anti-inflammatory and healing nature. They are also rich sources of oleic acid which enhances your immune system. All these oils when cooked at low temperatures are excellent; however, they lack all the nutrients if exposed to higher temperatures.

Walnut is accepted worldwide as a functional health food. In walnut oil production, it is very significant to get a suitable method to obtain oil from seeds. Walnut oil in this study was obtained using pressing the seeds and later its extraction with supercritical CO2. The effects of frequency (20, 30, 40 Hz), pressing temperature (70, 85, 100 °C), and nozzle size (8, 10, 12 mm) in pressing experiments on oil recovery and oil temperature were observed. The optimal calculated pressing condition within the experimental range of the variables studied was noted. In obtained walnut oil the following parameters were examined: peroxide value, insoluble impurities, free fatty acids, moisture content, saponification value, iodine value, p-anisidine value, and Totox value. The residual oil which is collected from the pressed cake in optimal conditions was extracted with CO2 to extract tocopherols residue from walnut after applying the screw press process. The content of tocopherols in walnut oil extracted by pressing and oil obtained by supercritical CO2 was compared.

Importance of walnut cold-pressed oil

Walnut oil is extracted from walnut kernels that have fat content more than 60% after drying. The oil can be obtained by cold-pressing, chemical extraction, or hot-pressing. However, cold-pressed and subsequently filtered walnut oil is having high quality. Oils of simple quality (oil from extraction or hot-pressing) are generally also refined later to separate some of the bitter substances. First, the nuts are extracted from their outer shells and then dried. To have a richly aromatic and flavourful oil, the walnuts are occasionally briefly roasted before pressing. For a cold-pressing, the nut kernels are careful – without using any heat or temperature – placed into a screw press and then de-oiled. Then the oil is filtered in several steps to eliminate the lees and turbidity components. For a hot-pressing, the oil is gained only after a substantial heat input. A hot-pressing then ensues mechanically with a screw press. Afterward, it is refined into unwanted substances. The final product is an oil that is neutral in odor and taste but has a long shelf life. The oil can also be extracted from the walnuts through a chemical extraction method by the use of organic solvents. The solvent is subsequently separated in second heating, after which the oil is passed through a refining process.

Market potential of cold-pressed walnut oil

According to the market analysis and thorough research, it is identified that a large number of uses are associated with walnut oil is one of the primary aspects of the increasing growth for the walnut oil market. Consumers constantly prefer walnut oil for its several nutritional uses such as the dietary source of essential fatty acids and potent antioxidants and helps to lower the risk of cardiovascular diseases. IN addition to that, walnut oil also improves blood vessel functions and reduces belly fat. Moreover, the oil also useful to hair and skin as it avoids hair loss and dandruff endorses hair growth, and treats many skin diseases. Even market research experts estimate that this market will upsurge increasingly at a CAGR of about 5% by 2021.

The growing demand for artisanal oils is recognized as one of the key trends behind the upsurge of the walnut oil market. Consumers are increasingly insisting on artisanal oils because these products are made with the help of traditional methods or are handcrafted. The demand for traditional products and handcrafted goods is progressively growing among consumers. Artisanal products are increasingly attaining preference for consumers and are meant to be as authentic and of high-quality for them. The artisanal oils are manufactured in small batches. The rising demand for artisanal oils is inspiring several culinary oil manufacturers to yield artisanal oils to and meet customer demands.

Equipment for cold pressed walnut oil production

The Walnut oil press machine applies the twice pressing method to acquire walnut oil. The equipment mainly has a walnut hulling machine, hydraulic oil press, walnut shelling machine, screw oil press, walnut oil refining equipment, etc. Walnut processing equipment will retain the nourishment in the walnut kernel, having high oil yield and less residual oil rate in the cake. The nutrition in the walnut cake is also sustained and the cake is well prepared for further processing. The refined walnut oil with high quality is packed directly for sale. Walnut oil press equipment is appropriate for small-scale walnut oil production.

Features of walnut processing equipment

  • Walnut processing equipment uses twice pressing technology to enhance the oil yield.
  • The nutrition in the walnut kernel is sustained in the walnut oil and cake.
  • The entire process aids to process walnut from hulling to refining.
  • Walnut oil refining machine is easy to operate, consumes less energy, good refining effect, and the quality of the oil is commendably increased.

1. Walnut hulling

The harvested walnuts are placed at the walnut hulling machine to eliminate the walnut hulls. This walnut processing machine has the operation for hulling and washing. It applies high speed rotating hob for cutting the hulls. The uncut hulls are separated by the steel brush in the walnut machine. The hulled walnuts are washed to eliminate the mucus on the surface.

2. Walnut shelling

The hulled walnuts are first graded by a walnut grading machine and later cracked by the walnut cracking machine. Walnut cracking machine uses rollers to crack the walnuts. The mixture of walnut shells and kernels are separated by using the walnut shell and kernel separator.

3. First pressing

Walnut kernels are fed to the walnut hydraulic oil press for the first pressing of walnut oil. This walnut oil extraction machine uses the hydraulic pressure to press the walnut kernels. The oil obtained is filtered. Walnut oil pressed using this walnut processing machine is of high quality.

4. Second pressing

Walnut cake discharged from the hydraulic oil press is having a high residual oil rate and is twice pressed through a screw oil press to increase the oil yield. Screw oil press uses the pressure in the barrel for pressing the walnut kernels. Before twice pressing, the walnut cake is cooked in a flat pan oilseed cooker that will increase the oil yield. Then the cake is sent into the screw oil press. The cake obtained from twice pressing has less residual oil rate and is used for deep processing. The crude walnut oil is then filtered.

5. Refining of cold-pressed walnut oil

The filtered walnut oil from the first pressing and second pressing is refined by the refining machine to intensify the quality of the oil. By degumming, bleaching, deacidification, and deodorization, the impurities in the crude walnut oil are separated. Here is the process:

  • The filtered crude walnut oil is sent into the refining pot and is preheated. With stirring, alkali liquor is added that causes the formation of soapstock. Then the oil is settled and the soapstock is removed. The oil is washed with hot water several times and then pumped into the bleaching pot.
  • After vacuum dehydration in the bleaching pot, bleaching clay is included for the bleaching process. Then the mixture is clarified to remove the bleaching clay.
  • The bleached oil is sent into the deodorization pot and is distilled in a vacuum.
